Love you all! | December 27, 2017
Hello everyone!
I had the best Christmas ever because I got to see you all and talk to you! That was the best gift I could've received. I feel really bad thought because I didn't get to hear anything about you all and what's going on at home. I also feel sad because I couldn't hear Katherine or Barry very well and I didn't get to talk to you two much :( I'll do better on Mother's Day!
The rest of my Christmas was really fun and FULL of food. The Yuyes family (where we skyped) gave us panettone (fruit cake) and rice pudding and chocolate milk. It was super good but I could barely finish because I was still full from the lunch we had at the Terrones'. And after that, we had dinner at another member's house, the Marrero's. They had the 3 sets of missionaries in the Oranjestad branch over for dinner and we had ham, chicken, ensalada rosa (my favorite), and rolls. It was all so delicious but I'm still not sure how I was able to eat everything. I was bursting by the end of the night! I've never been so full or in so much pain in my whole life! But we shared favorite Christmas traditions with them and sang Christmas hymns with them, it was really fun!
Yesterday we had exchanges so I got to work in another area with Sister Melendez. We had so many great lessons and I learned a lot from her! I wrote President about one in specific:
When Sister Melendez and I were on exchanges yesterday, we had a lesson with an investigator named Pascual. We taught the second part of the Restoration. When we explained the Great Apostasy and how many churches were formed in that time, he said "That's just like today! There are so many churches in the world." Then when we recited the First Vision, he kept saying how beautiful it was and he loved that Heavenly Father called Joseph Smith by name. I felt the Spirit so strong in that lesson and it was amazing to see Pascual really understand the message of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am sad he lives in the Matadera area because I want to keep teaching him and see his progress! But it was just a beautiful lesson.
I love being able to teach people the message of the restoration and see them really be able to understand it. The Gospel is so personal to everyone and can touch everyone's life in a different. We are so fortunate and blessed to have the knowledge that we do of a loving Father in Heaven and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We have the Book of Mormon to guide us and a living prophet who gives us modern revelation from God for the world. This Gospel is beautiful! And it is our responsibility to share it with others. D&C 88:81! Never forget that we are witnesses of Jesus Christ!
I love you all so so much! I hope you have a wonderful week and a happy new year!
Love,
Sister Davidson
PS I forgot 2 weeks in a row to answer questions! here they are:
1. Are the Carribbean people as laid back as we all think they are?
Yes! Especially with timing. The church will say an activity will start at 6, but then it won't even start until 7 or 7:30...
2. Do you feel like most people are pretty friendly and happy? Isn't the motto One Happy Island?
They definitely are! It's kind of funny though because the warmest and friendliest people are the Latinos. Arubians are pretty known for being more closed off and not as friendly.
3. Have you spoken in church?
Yes! About 2 weeks ago they had a special sacrament meeting about missionary work, so all speakers were missionaries. I spoke on being a friend to investigators and recent converts. It was a fun challenge to do it in Spanish! I was nervous do but it went well.
4. Do you feel like you're more bike fit than you used to be?
With biking, yes. But Sister Woodbury and I tried running the other day for exercise... that didn't go too well. But put me on a bike and I'm happy!
5. How is your Spanish and Papiamento?
Good! I feel pretty comfortable in both languages and pretty much say everything I want to. Sometimes I have to change the sentence a little, but I can still get my point across.
I found this notebook at a grocery store and thought of Dad! Go Lobos!
