Happy (late) Thanksgiving! | November 27, 2017
Hello! I loved hearing about everyone's Thanksgiving and seeing all the pictures! It sounds/looks like you all had a great time, which I'm happy to hear!
Thanksgiving! It took about 10 tries to get this picture, and we're still missing an elder and the others just wouldn't smile...

Thanksgiving here was fun! We had a traditional dinner at the senior couple's house and were able to play a few games like Pictionary too. We finished the activity by 3, so we had the rest of the day to have lessons and proselyte, which was a blessing because I was able to focus back on missionary work instead of how much I wished I could be with you all celebrating!
This week was really great! Sister Woodbury came on Tuesday so we have been together almost the whole week. She is from Arizona and has been out for almost 9 months. She is so fun! And her Spanish is amazing, which is such a blessing. I'm going to learn a lot from her and hopefully I'll be able to sound like her after this transfer too!
Some fun facts about this week:
-We had a lunch appt this week, and the sister from the branch kept asking us if we wanted "higado" but we didn't know what that meant. She showed it to us and it looked like regular meat so we said sure. It was good but had kind of a funny texture. We looked that word up when we got home and it means cow liver! Woohoo! That was exciting to find out. We knew it was something weird because of the way she explained it us, but we didn't think it would be liver.
-The rain seems to have gone away, it has been really hot and sunny this week! It's kind of nice though, because our apartment has AC and I'm starting to get cold whenever we're in it for too long. I think I'm going to have a buy a sweatshirt to wear in the apartment!
-We sang Christmas hymns in church yesterday! Maybe that's normal, but I thought it was kind of early (made me think of Lauren). It was fun to get in the spirit though! Everyone here already has their Christmas lights up and some even have their tree too! They ship real trees here...they're super expensive, but people go all out for Christmas.
I explained a lot about our investigators to President Egbert in my email to him:
Our investigators are doing amazing! We had four investigators at church yesterday- David and Melissa, and Rochen and Nilson. We have been trying to get Rochen and Nilson to church for so long, so it was so exciting to finally see them there yesterday! We have moved David and Melissa's baptismal date back to December 16 (happy birthday Dallin!) because David had a problem with smoking that we didn't know about until we taught the Word of Wisdom. But he is really committed to quitting and they have both said that they will be prepared for the 16th. They are so faithful and really looking forward to being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
As I mentioned before, David has a problem with smoking but really wants to give it up so he can follow the Word of Wisdom. When we found out about his addiction, we told him about Priesthood blessings and how they work. We asked if he would like one to help him quit smoking, and he immediately said yes and said he had faith that it would help him quit. We arranged for Brother Meiker to give him a blessing on Sunday after church. We were able to be present for the blessing, and the Spirit in that room was so strong. Brother Meiker gave him a wonderful blessing of strength to be able to resist temptation and leave his bad habits behind. I could really feel the faith of both David and Melissa, and the other people in the room. We asked David that night how he felt, and he said he felt stronger and that the blessing has already helped him so much. This was the first time that I was able to be present for a Priesthood blessing given to an investigator, and it was a really spiritual and beautiful experience. My testimony of Priesthood blessings grew so much because of that experience. I have received Priesthood blessings before and experienced the blessings that come from them, but the Spirit was so strong yesterday because of the faith of our investigators, it just really stood out to me. I am so thankful for the Priesthood and I know that it is truly a gift from God that there are worthy men on earth who can hold it and use it to bless the lives of His children.
That Priesthood blessing was so beautiful and I was so glad I could be present for it and feel the Spirit of the Lord so strongly! I know the Lord truly blesses us when we have faith.
I love you all so much and hope you have a great week!
Love,
Hermana Davidson
1. Are you able to see Venezuela on a really clear day?
Yes! It's super weird that we're that close to Venezuela. I didn't even know I was looking at Venezuela until I asked a member what that land mass was that we can see from the beach and they told me...crazy!
2. What do people do for work on Aruba?
A lot of people work with tourist business: souvenir shops, hotels, restaurants on the beach, etc. Another big business is construction. I'd say those are the biggest 2.
3. Do you have smartphones or iPads or are you Sisters old-school?
We're old school! You should see our phone...I think it's from 1990. It's huge and chunky and made for construction workers...seriously, the brand is CAT.
We got Chalo burger (my first time)! It's this awesome food truck that makes Colombian style burgers (whatever that means) and they're HUGE but DELICIOUS!
Higado y yo!
P.S. I am just now realizing that all the pictures I have for this week are related to food...yeah...
